Curtis Allen: Gentle Word

This week, the Boundless webzine features an article by my friend and rap artist, Curtis Allen (a.k.a. "Voice"). In it, Curtis tells the story of the brouhaha over his performance at Bethlehem Baptist Church. Instead of lashing out with anger or seeking to defend Christian rap, Curtis responded with humility. In one section, he writes,
The Lord also worked on my heart as I was beginning to write an angry email to my critics. He showed me that I am not morally superior to them. He reminded me that I have slandered others and gossiped about others many times. How was I any better than these people? I could almost hear these questions, audibly, in my head. The Holy Spirit convicted me of my self-righteousness.Read the full article and you'll understand why I'm so excited about this man's future in pastoral ministry. And if you haven't heard Curtis' music, drop by his website and order one of his albums.

Stephen Altrogge Reviews Dug Down Deep: Over at the Blazing Center blog they've posted a very generous review of the book. Read it.
Sex-Trafficking in USA: A recent nation-wide crackdown rescued 52 children from sex-trafficking. The LA Times reports that most victims in this wicked industry begin at age 12. And it's "estimated that 100,000 children are still involved in sex trafficking in the U.S., adding that the problem is growing partly because of the recession." Read the article.
Andrew Gallo VstheBrain: Here are some still shots and technical specs on the video shoot we did the other day. I haven't gotten around to asking Andrew to explain his company's name VstheBrain, but it sounds cool. Read post.

We could learn a lot from this man's attitude and humility. Something that is very hard for us as a whole to accomplish! I know for me, when the critics come, my first reaction is to respond in kind. But to quote a well respected friend, "the best weapon is a kind word, a prayer and a smile." Although this might not've been what Curtis could've done, just being able to accept it and then saying where He stood, showed these people just how strongly God has a hold on his life. What an awesome, awesome thing to witness.

I can't begin to tell you how much this blessed me. My 15yo daughter and I faced similar criticism following the publications of interviews we conducted with two popular performing artists. Curtis Allen's wise and humble response to the criticism he received is exactly the encouragement that we needed.

That kind of humbleness can easily be lost today, that was an awesome reminder!! I tried to check out his website, but it led me to a website talking about how to put people on hold, http://www.ihearvoice.com/. Does any one know a site where I can check out his music?
