Un-Lady Like Conduct

This week, I read about Ann Coulter's crude comments about John Edwards and thought, "I wish some conservative Christian leader would condemn her ungodly behavior." Well, thank God for Al Mohler. His article "Recovering Civility...and Refusing to Deny the Obvious" is worth a read. He takes on Coulter and, while stating his political disagreements with him, honors Edwards' love and commitment to his wife and family.

Record Catch with a Barbie Fishing Rod: This is a pretty funny story. Will you look at that fish? It's bigger than the girl. It's a good thing she handed it over to her grandpa. That catfish would have dragged her away.
Blue Like Obama: Popular Christian author Donald Miller will deliver the closing prayer at the Democratic Convention on Monday night. AP Religion Writer Eric Gorski reports that originally Cameron Strang, "the 32-year-old editor of edgy and hip Relevant Magazine," was scheduled to do it but had second thoughts and pulled out. "Citing fears that his bridge-building gesture would be wrongly construed as an endorsement, Strang said he instead hopes to take a lower-profile role, participating in a convention caucus meeting on religion later in the week." The article notes that Strang found Donald Miller, author of the popular spiritual memoir 'Blue Like Jazz' to offer the prayer in his place. (Hat Tip: Mike Allen) [Update: Here's a transcript of Miller's prayer.]
Modest Clothing Trend: Styles come and go. Could there be shift toward a more modest, layered look on the rise among women? An article entitled "Mom Shocked by Teen's Modest Clothing" at CNN.com says there is. The article says, "At the spring Paris fashion shows, Stephanie Meyerson -- trend director for youth culture at Stylesight, a retail forecasting firm -- saw a definite "moving away from overtly sexual" in teen fashion, especially through layering and comfortable baggy looks. "Girls are dressing for themselves, as opposed to dressing for guys," she said. "The guys might not like it but the girls are not wearing really tight shirts. They're covered up."

Church?
"I am reading Joshua Harris book Stop Dating the Church...love it. He talks about the people who believe they can be Christians and never go to church. I have heard this argument many times. They don't believe you have to fellowship..." (Read full post here.)
Jargon Meets Advice
"Boy Meets Girl: I read part of this back when I bought it 7-ish years ago. If you get past the jargon-y parts it has some solid advice." (Read full post here.)
A Brief Review
"I think this book [Sex is Not the Problem (Lust Is)] would appeal to both teenagers and parents, although I would give the parents the book first to read. This is not explicit in its language but it does tackle the difficult questions." (Read full post here.)

This woman has always stretched me, and many times, made me frustrated (might even go as far as angry) when I hear her battling on TV. If not so much for her political views, it's exactly for what she does here to John Edwards. It scares me that everyone was "okay" with such conduct. What has this country come to? Reminds me of highschool!

It's to bad that she gets called on this, yet you get people on the left saying similar things (think "Chocolate City" comment by Ray Nagin) and there isn't a peep. At least conservatives and Christians are standing up and calling her on it.

What's even more disturbing is all the people who thought this was hysterical. I wonder how many Christian brothers and sisters in attendance were laughing.

I completely agree. Unfortunately Ms. Coulter has lost sight of her original purpose and has been caught up in the desire for higher ratings, and has thereby become ineffective. I pray that Christian conservatives realize this and ensure that all they do and say - about politics or anything else - is glorifying to God. We are called to be salt and light - not ranting offenders.

I laughed. With conservative christians like Pat Robertson and Jerry Fallwell, I think conservative christian leaders would be doing everyone a favor by keeping their mouths shut more often. I dont know Coultiers beliefs, but non christians are not christians, and its unfair to hold them to that standard. Doing so comes off as holier than thou and condescending. Most people dont care what good news you have to tell them when they think youre looking down your nose at them.

Jason,
I agree with you that we can't hold non-Christians to biblical standards. But from what I understand Coulter would claim to be a Christian and is often supported by conservative Christians. Hence, I believe it's appropriate to point out where her actions and attitudes don't represent us.
