I'm Not Indispensable.

I have this quote from J.I. Packer's book Evangelism and the Sovereignty of God, written on the first page of my personal journal:
...the Christian must never for one moment imagine himself to be indispensable to God, or allow himself to behave as if he were. The God who sent him, and is pleased to work with him, can do without him.I have good and relatively important work to accomplish today. I'm sure you do as well. Let's give ourselves to our responsibilities and duties with joy. Let's work as unto the Lord. But let's not believe, even for a nanosecond, that the success and accomplishment of God's agenda depends on us. He's pleased to use us, and that is more than amazing. But he can do without us.
God's plan is going to march forward even if you and I drop dead later today. And isn't that truth good for the soul? We worship and serve the Sovereign One.

Pilgrim's Progress Musical: Pilgrim is a modern musical adaptation of John Bunyan's classic work, Pilgrim's Progress. It was performed in spring 2009 by the high school students at my church. They did a great job. The script is by theatre professionals (and members of our church) Janice Mays and Cathy Mays. The music is by various artists, including Bob Kauflin, Zach Jones and Mark Altrogge. You can order a DVD of the production here.
Give Me An Answer Highschool Conference: I'm looking forward to joining Al Mohler, Russell Moore, Shane & Shane and hip-hop artist Flame at the SBTS conference for highschool students next spring. Details.
Stephen Altrogge Reviews Dug Down Deep: Over at the Blazing Center blog they've posted a very generous review of the book. Read it.

What a great reminder, or "wake up call!"
And when He does use us, it's not because of who or what we are, or what we might be able to bring, as without Him we can do nothing! (John 15:5)

Hi Josh,
Just so you know, one of your earlist books, "I kissed dating Goodbye" continues to spur people all over the world to reexamine, reevaluate, and rededicate our lives to the Lord again, like never before. I'm one such person. I believe God had me read your book for a reason, and I thank you for conveying the messages I so needed to hear.
God bless you =)

Thank you for always taking time to pen down your thoughts which serve as reminders for fellow Christians. My visits to your blog have indeed proved to be beneficial to my soul. May the Lord continue to use you as His mouthpiece, and may you always inspire other Christians in running the race set before us.

Knowing that what I accomplish isn't going to make or break God's plan is also a comfort: if I mess up, the world will not fall apart on account of my mistake. Sometimes I get stuck in indecision because I fear a wrong choice will be disaster. Yay for a sovereign God.
