Removing Obstacles

"The gospel advances when we're more concerned with reaching the lost than protecting our rights." That was the theme of my sermon on 1 Corinthians 9:1-23. Last week, I posted my first point from Paul's example of how to reach the lost: We need to know them.

Here's a clip from point 2 of the message—remove obstacles:

i just wanted to let you know that your message has been a great encouragement. a couple weeks ago, my boss who is a christian struggled a lot with the president of our company. she's quite passionate and prays for opportunities to share the gospel to our co-workers. and as she expressed her frustrations, she started to talk about her "rights" which led her to complain and belittle other co-workers at our company. as i listened to her, i was reminded of your message and the life of Paul. I began to encourage her that we live beyond our so called "rights" that we claim is ours. Instead, we live to proclaim the truth of Jesus and if that is what her and i believed in then we must go and be like Jesus. As we started to look into the Word, God truly settled her heart to stop focusing on her "rights" or emotions and start looking at the Cross of Christ. so, thank you!

Mr. Harris,
Thank-you for posting this great message!
I just had a quick question about your book: Boy Meets Girl.
I have the book, but apparently it has been updated since I got my copy, and I was wondering if it was possible to get the 8 great date ideas (or however you worded the extra section) seperate from buying a whole new book...or not?

Thank-you!

Hey Josh,

Had me laughin' there for a minute... because your example was so perfect. You had me thinking EXACTLY of what that could be in my life. Thanks for the Godly confrontation... so many miles away haha. I needed that

Great message.
Being home-schooled myself,
I had to laugh about the 'socialization' thing.
I think its so great how there is so much support for home-schoolers in America though. Being home-schooled in Australia was a little tougher because its less common and you have less support. I struggled a lot in my home-school days (I'm 19 now) with people constantly thinking I was weird and uneducated!

Josh, you are a very gifted speaker, Any chance of visiting Oz soon?

Mr. Harris,
Thank you for this. My family had to sit and listen to the entire sermon. This message is very much needed in our "Christian" culture these days.

Hey, Everybody!

Thanks for your comments on the message!

Tai, I've asked my assistant to get to you via email re: the Boy Meets Girl question.

Joshua

Josh,

Awesome! I was at the C3 conference a couple of months and i thought i saw you there. I was half tempted to run up and say sign my ESV :) but I didn't.

If you were there I would love to hear what your take aways were.

How do you bring creativity to Covenant Life and to preaching a gospel-centered message?

Thanks

Great stuff.

I've always struggled with the fact that I was homeschooled. I've actually tried to separate myself from the memory of being homeschooled and from the homeschool community.

The day that I realized that I had actually forgotten that I had been homeschooled, I saw this video clip. It spoke to me so much.... I just about cried when I heard the part about homeschooling and your response to the man who challenged you. It was the first time I've ever heard someone speak of homeschooling with humility, knowing that they didn't need to defend it, and knowing that it might cause the other person to stumble if they DID defend it.

It actually made me want to WANT to be ok with my past.

God bless you.
