Gray Matters

The team at Boundless is featuring a great little series on discernment by my buddy and fellow pastor and New Attitude guru, Eric Simmons. In the series entitled "Gray Matters," Eric shares five principles of discernment. He kicks off his article with this tantalizing introduction:
Gray matters. We all deal with them...those places in our lives where the line between "right" and "wrong" gets fuzzy. Or even disappears.Don't stop here, read the rest of the article.
Is it OK just to fast-forward the sex scene and watch the rest of the movie?
Should I smoke a cigar with my unbelieving father?
How tight is too tight?
Can a Christian play poker?
Can I have a beer with dinner?
I can't tell you which movies to watch or what music to listen to. I can't give you a list of Do's and Don'ts. But together we can go to Scripture to cultivate discernment in the gray matters.

Bad Guy Caught With a Mac: This is a great story. A girl's Apple laptop gets stolen but she uses a remote access program to control it and takes a picture of the thief as the doofus sits in front of the stolen computer. "Smile! You're getting your mug shot taken!" Using the picture, the police nab the bad guy. Moral of the story? Don't mess with a high-tech girl's Mac.
New Word Alive's Top 10: The recent New Word Alive conference showed a video top-ten list of books for students. My book Sex is Not the Problem made the list. It's pretty funny. I just wish mine could have made it in the wok.

Church?
"I am reading Joshua Harris book Stop Dating the Church...love it. He talks about the people who believe they can be Christians and never go to church. I have heard this argument many times. They don't believe you have to fellowship..." (Read full post here.)
Jargon Meets Advice
"Boy Meets Girl: I read part of this back when I bought it 7-ish years ago. If you get past the jargon-y parts it has some solid advice." (Read full post here.)
A Brief Review
"I think this book [Sex is Not the Problem (Lust Is)] would appeal to both teenagers and parents, although I would give the parents the book first to read. This is not explicit in its language but it does tackle the difficult questions." (Read full post here.)

Exactly what I need as of the moment. "All things are permissible but not all things are beneficial." We must strive to choose to do things that will glorify our Lord, and those that will glorify our Lord will definitely benefit our souls. Thanks to Eric for the wise insights. I emailed the articles to friends! :)

Hi Josh I just want to thank you for this post and the past one as well, they've helped me alot as i seek to counsel a young fellow, and for sure they were encouraging and challenging to myself as well.
Thank you very much for your ministry, each day I'm more thankfull to God to be able to know the english language and then to be able to usufruct of your ministry, I still pray and think in my brazilians brothers who can't, I really wish we had more of your ministry translated into portuguese.
I pray that God keep blessing you and making you capable and wise. Thank you very much.
