Chewy Peps
Alright, boys and girls. Today we're introducing a new feature on the website: random posts about stuff that I like. Food. Clothing. Furniture. Whatever. These posts will feature products and companies. I'll pretend that I'm important and they are my sponsors. The truth is that I sponsor them by spending my money on their products—but that's less glamorous, so we'll call them sponsors.
First, on the list (not in order of importance) is my favorite candy, the Chewy Pep. The picture really doesn't do it justice. They are really good. They are addictive.

How can I describe them? They're sort of like taffy, only much harder. They're usually so hard that when you first pop them in your mouth, you have to bide your time as they soften up. Their byline is "The Succulent Dilemma" because the question when you're eating them is when to chomp. They have a nice, not-too-strong peppermint flavor. Once you're able to chew, it consumes your mouth for several minutes. This is part of the reason I have them in my office during meetings. It's hilarious to see and hear people try to participate while chomping a Chewy Pep.
My friends Joe and Emo introduced me to Chewy Peps. I was excited about them because they have zero preservatives. [Let me just pause here and ask, Why are you still reading this ridiculous post about Chewy Peps? Is there really nothing better to read on all the millions of other websites on the internet? Of course I'm kidding. Everything on this site is important.] But anyway, just about every candy out there has tons of preservatives and dyes and weird ingredients that give me headaches. Chewy Peps are totally natural.
About a year ago I started stocking my office with Chewy Peps and now a large number of our staff are Chewy Pep addicts. Joe stops by and fills his pockets regularly. So does Brian. People come by to "see" me when all they really want is my candy. Two young members of our church discovered Chewy Peps while their mom was in a counseling meeting. Now they come by every Sunday and hang around pretending to be happy to see me until I offer them Chewy Peps. I don't mind—it makes me feel loved.
This Christmas, I sent Chewy Peps around to a bunch of my pastor friends. A few have told me they're hooked. Some of the guys were turned off by the name. Too wimpy?
My friend Jim Donohue who pastors up in Philly cracked up and wouldn't even try them. He told me he just gave them to his kids. His loss. But I'll probably see his kids at my office door soon.
Do yourself a favor and drop by Route 29 Napa, the company that makes Chewy Peps, and order yourself a tin. You will thank me. Once you try them, let me know what you think.
And of course, a big thanks to Route 29 for their generous sponsorship of our site.

Pilgrim's Progress Musical: Pilgrim is a modern musical adaptation of John Bunyan's classic work, Pilgrim's Progress. It was performed in spring 2009 by the high school students at my church. They did a great job. The script is by theatre professionals (and members of our church) Janice Mays and Cathy Mays. The music is by various artists, including Bob Kauflin, Zach Jones and Mark Altrogge. You can order a DVD of the production here.
Give Me An Answer Highschool Conference: I'm looking forward to joining Al Mohler, Russell Moore, Shane & Shane and hip-hop artist Flame at the SBTS conference for highschool students next spring. Details.
Stephen Altrogge Reviews Dug Down Deep: Over at the Blazing Center blog they've posted a very generous review of the book. Read it.

Josh, you made me laugh outloud with this post. Thank you. I've been having one of those days where I need a laugh. Well, I need Truth, but... a laugh is excellent too. ;-)
BTW, Jim's brother is my pastor - I should see if I can get him to try one. :-D

Nice work Josh. Chewy Peps aren't available here in Australia - we didn't even have cinnamon chewy until a year or two back (I had to ask a friend to bring some back for me)
We have Fantails here though, and they are pretty scrumptious.
Catch ya,
Mark.

I wish they were available in Australia - last Christmas my daughter was given heaps of candy canes from school mates and she can't take the dyes either. She had to chuck them out!
