I'm not any sort of Bible scholar, but I'm uncomfortable with any paraphrased version of the bible. I have a NT copy of The Message and don't feel it holds up well against the NIV I study. I'm not familiar with the ESV but my experience with The Message leaves me uneasy about paraphrased versions.

Thanks for your comment. If you don't care for paraphrase, I think you'd really like the ESV, as it is even less so than the NIV.
