Resources on Biblical Manhood & Womanhood

cbmw_logo_120.gifFor 20 years, the Council on Biblical Manhood and Womanhood (CBMW) has worked to define, defend, and celebrate Scripture's teaching about men, women, and gender.

C.J. Mahaney says about CBMW, "There is no more strategic ministry in the battle to defend and promote a biblical vision of God-glorifying manhood and womanhood."

I'm so excited that now the resources in their treasure trove are easier to find, read, and download at their redesigned website.

Here are some great pages to get you started:

Hi Josh,

Don't know how I stumbled across your site in the first place, but I've enjoyed coming back to visit. We come from very different places on the theological continuum, so your views and vision for ministry are important for me to hear and pay attention to.

But this stuff on "Biblical" gender identity is really troubling to me. In a blunt way, I would suggest to you that trying to find a normative vision for gender identity in the Bible is a perilous project. It doesn't exist. There are a lot of depictions of male and female in Scripture--some are laudable, some not so much. But nowhere in Scripture is there a vision for modern-day gender identity that can be said to be normative for the Christian community--let alone for all of society.

I still haven't dug up my notes on Machen, either, but I'd like to have that conversation with you, too.

Anyway, I just find this gender stuff really tough. So does my wife--a capable and gifted pastor.

Thank you for sharing this. Biblical gender roles have disappeared from secular society altogether and are quick disappearing from many churches. It is wonderful how male and female and equal yet different. For some reason, it's trendy to act/dress more like the opposite gender. I don't get that. I don't like when people make stereotypes based on society, but i'm all for sticking to what the Bible says. For example, i can't stand it when someone tries to make me wipe down tablecloths instead of putting away tables and chairs after an agape feast. I'll gladly submit to my husband one day, after finding one that won't be a tyranical leader, but one like Jesus was. I love the whole type & shadow setup. God is so wonderful to make things so complex and then show us the way we can understand it. Marriage is set so high, yet it's only a type of the relationship between Christ and the church (the whole invisible CHURCH, so i don't want to hear intimate love songs to Jesus).
