Narnia News

The second installment of The Chronicles of Narnia is coming May 2008. I just saw this poster today. I only wish they could release one Narnia movie a year like they did with Lord of the Rings. But then I read that they've pushed the release of Voyage back a year. It won't be out until May of 2010. Bummer.
And is it true that they're not planning to turn all the books into movies? Someone told me that they won't be doing A Horse and His Boy. That's criminal! That's my favorite Narnia book! If you know anything about this, please leave a comment.

Record Catch with a Barbie Fishing Rod: This is a pretty funny story. Will you look at that fish? It's bigger than the girl. It's a good thing she handed it over to her grandpa. That catfish would have dragged her away.
Blue Like Obama: Popular Christian author Donald Miller will deliver the closing prayer at the Democratic Convention on Monday night. AP Religion Writer Eric Gorski reports that originally Cameron Strang, "the 32-year-old editor of edgy and hip Relevant Magazine," was scheduled to do it but had second thoughts and pulled out. "Citing fears that his bridge-building gesture would be wrongly construed as an endorsement, Strang said he instead hopes to take a lower-profile role, participating in a convention caucus meeting on religion later in the week." The article notes that Strang found Donald Miller, author of the popular spiritual memoir 'Blue Like Jazz' to offer the prayer in his place. (Hat Tip: Mike Allen) [Update: Here's a transcript of Miller's prayer.]
Modest Clothing Trend: Styles come and go. Could there be shift toward a more modest, layered look on the rise among women? An article entitled "Mom Shocked by Teen's Modest Clothing" at CNN.com says there is. The article says, "At the spring Paris fashion shows, Stephanie Meyerson -- trend director for youth culture at Stylesight, a retail forecasting firm -- saw a definite "moving away from overtly sexual" in teen fashion, especially through layering and comfortable baggy looks. "Girls are dressing for themselves, as opposed to dressing for guys," she said. "The guys might not like it but the girls are not wearing really tight shirts. They're covered up."

Church?
"I am reading Joshua Harris book Stop Dating the Church...love it. He talks about the people who believe they can be Christians and never go to church. I have heard this argument many times. They don't believe you have to fellowship..." (Read full post here.)
Jargon Meets Advice
"Boy Meets Girl: I read part of this back when I bought it 7-ish years ago. If you get past the jargon-y parts it has some solid advice." (Read full post here.)
A Brief Review
"I think this book [Sex is Not the Problem (Lust Is)] would appeal to both teenagers and parents, although I would give the parents the book first to read. This is not explicit in its language but it does tackle the difficult questions." (Read full post here.)

I haven't heard anything, don't know anything. But I have read that they're have trouble with the characters in The Horse and His Boy because it's supposedly anti-Arab or anti-Muslim. I think that's nonsense, but in our over-sensitive times . . .

I don't know any more than you do but I will second that "the horse and his boy" is my favorite as well :-)
I even named my black cat Aslan when I was a kid.
I hope the do a good job with prince caspian the poster makes him look too much like Hayden Christensen.

I agree with you they should make the movie A Horse and His Boy. I wish that they would have made The Magician's Nephew before the Lion, Witch and Wardrobe.
I hope they make all the books into movies, that would be neat!

You all like Horse and his Boy best? Man, I always got funny looks when I told people that. Nice to know I'm not the only one.
Its sad that the Horse and His Boy usually gets pushed off and remains un-made because of the casting issues (casting the children in the Lion logically puts all books with those children in line first, before the kids get too old).

The Horse and his Boy was always my faourite also. I was listening to Radio 4 BBC programme here in the UK and a person (of Muslim background) was commenting how he had read the books as a child and loved the but interestingly wished to identify with the Narnians (ie the whites) but felt that he ought to also identify with the Calormenes beacuse of his own ethnic heritage....that was the gist I think anyway.
Very interesting listening to his take on it.

as long as they get to the last book they will do a service to Lewis by bringing his literary epic to a wider audience. the horse and his boy is excellent. but Lewis was leading the story to a particular place and that was "The Last Battle", if Disney can stomach getting there that would be great! however it is disappointing, if true, that political correctness would have such an influence and stop the production of horse and his boy. for a post-modern culture that advocates tolerance you would think they would try to understand the culture that Lewis wrote in at the time. during the 50's people thought it was amusing to make fun of other cultures... a little tolerance of his time would help. i'm sure they could, if they wanted to, make the "dark-skinned" people (the Calormenes) amusing in a modern sense, even humorous if they applied a little creativity... phooey on Disney!

I agree! The Horse and His Boy is vital to the Chronicles of Narnia! But, you are probably right. It won't be produced because of political correctness.
If the poster is a good indication they have defaced the masterpice that is Prince Caspian. The eponymous character looks sadly "emo", as I believe they call it these days.*
*I am only 16, but that is actually how I view things.

PS. Everyone in every fantasy movie ever needs a haircut badly. The Lord of the Rings looks like they posted flyers throughout New Zealand saying:
WANTED
Have long unkempt blond hair?
YOU can be in
the LORD of the RINGS!

Unfortunately, if Disney is making the Chronicles of Narnia as a "series," the logical one to leave out(or leave to the end) would be The Horse and His Boy. The same goes for The Magician's Nephew. I'm sure casting issues would play a part in that as well. The Voyage of the Dawn Treader is my personal favorite; it's such a great allegory of the Christian life. =)

This is what i heard regarding making
"The Horse and His Boy" I heard there going to make all of the other Narnia movies first so the actors (like Lucy) get older and grow up in the Movies. Then once they've finished the other movies with the same actors they'll go back and make the Horse and His Boy (last) I hope this makes sense.

The Horse and His Boy is, in my opinion, the best book in the series! We should start a petition:) Why wouldn't they make that one into a movie?

Has anyone read C.S. Lewis's space trilogy? Just as good as the Narnia series -- especially the first two volumes. It's one of his most underrated works.
