An Interview with Tullian Tchividjian-Part 3

This is the third and final installment of my interview with pastor and author Tullian Tchividjian, in which he shares about his new book, Do I Know God?, his testimony, and his thoughts on our generation.
Josh: Tell us about your family.
Tullian: I have been married to my beautiful wife Kim for 13 years now (we got married young—we were both 21) and we have three kids: Gabe is 12, Nate is 10, and Genna Ruth is almost 6. They're incredible. God has truly blessed me with a remarkable family (and a patient wife!).
Josh: What are you reading right now?
Tullian: I just finished reading a book by Charlie Drew (a Presbyterian church planter in NYC) entitled A Journey Worth Taking. It's excellent. In fact, I've asked the whole staff here at New City to read it. I've described the book to people as being much deeper and more theologically aware and intentional than the Purpose Driven Life but at the same time a bit more accessible than Os Guinness's book The Call. All three books attempt to help the reader find and fulfill their purpose in life, but Drew's strikes the key balance, in my opinion, between theological depth and accessibility. According to Charlie, the whole approach to the concept of calling can be understood best within the framework of creation, fall, redemption, and consummation. He helps the reader understand their purpose in life by unfolding that purpose within the drama, the story, of redemption. I recommend it highly. I'm also reading John Stott's commentary on Ephesians and I'm just about done with Philip Yancey's book Rumors of Another World—another excellent book.
Josh: How often do you surf?
Tullian: Growing up in south Florida, I actually started when I was quite young but over the last year, I haven't surfed nearly as much as I would have liked. Writing took up all my free time. But now that my publisher has given me a breather for a month or two, I hope to be out there as often as there are waves. We only live a few miles from the ocean and surfing is a heck of a lot cheaper than golf!

Nanoblog
Going Crazy Over Lincoln: On vacation I read Team of Rivals and Manhunt. Next in line are two by Ronald C. White, Jr.: A. Lincoln and Lincoln's Greatest Speech. I just wrote James L. Swanson an email that probably made me sound like a crazed groupie. I think I need professional help. I want to go visit Edwin Stanton's grave in Georgetown. Anybody wanna come?
Homeschooling Grows: I saw this article in USA Today the other day at the grocery store. It's fascinating to see how the homeschool movement is evolving. Read it.
New Facebook Page: This sounds really cheesy, but we just launched a "fan page" over on Facebook. So here's the deal: I've almost reached the limit of friends I'm allowed to have so we started it as a way to have more friends. So just ignore the whole "fan" thing and feel free to join. I'll be posting more there about the new book and conference stuff. I just loaded some of my favorite pictures from NEXT 2009. Visit page.
