Coming Soon from CJ Mahaney
A couple of exciting things are in the works with my friend CJ Mahaney. First, he's going to be starting a blog on the Sovereign Grace website next year. A number of us have been lobbying for him to do this so that more people can hear from him more consistently. Second, we're starting a podcast for pastors that will feature me interviewing CJ and Jeff Purswell on various topics. Last week we recorded our first interview. The topic was the importance of reading and study in a pastor's life. CJ and Jeff were great. I'm excited about the potential of these interviews to serve not only pastors, but any Christian who desires to grow spiritually. We're hoping to put them out every few months starting in 2008.
Sorry to tell you about two things you have to wait on. Here's something you can have now: a free download of a sermon CJ preached on 2 Corinthians 13:14.

Joel Harris on Worship: My brother Joel, who leads worship for the Rebelution conference, has written an article entitled "We Must Be Constant Worshipers."
Atheism Remix: The contemporary strain of atheism--the New Atheism--is more popular and widely accepted than previous strains. Dr. Al Mohler's newest book provides a Christian response to New Atheism's four leading thinkers: Richard Dawkins, Daniel Dennett, Sam Harris and Christopher Hitchens. You can learn more at a promotional site for the book.
Mahaney on Humor: Humor is a gift from God. When humbly and wisely used, it is a means of transferring truth and generating joy. This message by C.J. Mahaney addresses how we can use humor to build others up and honor God. It's worth a listen.

Church?
"I am reading Joshua Harris book Stop Dating the Church...love it. He talks about the people who believe they can be Christians and never go to church. I have heard this argument many times. They don't believe you have to fellowship..." (Read full post here.)
Jargon Meets Advice
"Boy Meets Girl: I read part of this back when I bought it 7-ish years ago. If you get past the jargon-y parts it has some solid advice." (Read full post here.)
A Brief Review
"I think this book [Sex is Not the Problem (Lust Is)] would appeal to both teenagers and parents, although I would give the parents the book first to read. This is not explicit in its language but it does tackle the difficult questions." (Read full post here.)

Ok.
So I started reading your blog when you posted your FACEBOOK experiment.
I so agreed with you.
So now I am getting this recommendation to listen to NOTICED by MUTE MATH.
So I did.
I don't get it.
Is it a love song about a girl?
or is it a love song about GOD?
I know alot of these types of songs you can read either way, but what was the band's intent?
When you have time!
Thanks!

Thanks for posting this exciting Pastor Josh.
I am so thankful for the wisdom of CJ. And I chose wisdom intentionally. His merging of the theological and practical is a wondrous combination that is rare today. I look forward to his blog and the interviews you are doing.
Sovereign Grace Ministries is a gift to the Body of Christ.
Thank you for your work as well brother. I am more familiar with CJ, but I have been blessed by your ministry as well, particularly, your sermon "humble orthodoxy" at the Resurgence conference.

Ha! I am sure you are an exciting individual, but it was not meant to be a description of you. I meant to say "Thanks for posting this exciting news Pastor Josh."

BJ,
Thanks for your encouragement about Sov. Grace and CJ's work. I can only say, "Amen!"
Glad to hear you were at Resurgence. Are you going again this coming year? It looks like a great line-up.

Actually I did not attend Resurgence but listened to the free audio of it. However, I did go to there previous Reformissionary conference that John Piper spoke at, which was excellent.
I have seen the next conference advertised and the lineup does look quite good. My wife and I have talked about attending, but haven't made plans to do so yet.
I'm excited that Matt Chandler will be speaking as well, as he is another "young" pastor, like yourself, that I think has some great stuff for the wider church.
P.S.
This may seem random, but one thing I'd be curious to hear you address is the function of spiritual gifts in your church? How is your local church earnestly pursuing the spiritual gifts (particularly the gifts that cessationists do not pursue :)
Peace,
BJ

JEC,
Thanks for the comment. I'm not sure who "Noticed" is directed to. My guess is that it's a love song.
"You are reaching for something that is beating
I can't believe i never noticed my heart before
over and again racing out of my skin
I can't believe I never noticed my heart before"
Yeah, I think it's a love song. Sorry if you didn't like it. Taking recommendations on music is dangerous I guess.
