The New Banner

My friend Beth Altrogge is the photographer behind the new banner for the homepage. We needed something different, and CJ has been bugging me to change it. The old banner was a close-up shot of one of my shirts and he thought it looked too feminine. Mind you, this is the man who, when ordering a drink at Starbucks, thinks that a "latte" sounds too feminine but a "mocha" is somehow more manly. I've tried to tell him that a mocha is just a latte with chocolate, but to no avail. Anyway, we ditched the shirt and asked Beth (yes, her dad is Mark Altrogge) to give us something new. You can see more of her work at the New Attitude site, and sometime soon she'll have some of her work available at www.bethaltrogge.com. Thanks, Beth!

Pilgrim's Progress Musical: Pilgrim is a modern musical adaptation of John Bunyan's classic work, Pilgrim's Progress. It was performed in spring 2009 by the high school students at my church. They did a great job. The script is by theatre professionals (and members of our church) Janice Mays and Cathy Mays. The music is by various artists, including Bob Kauflin, Zach Jones and Mark Altrogge. You can order a DVD of the production here.
Give Me An Answer Highschool Conference: I'm looking forward to joining Al Mohler, Russell Moore, Shane & Shane and hip-hop artist Flame at the SBTS conference for highschool students next spring. Details.
Stephen Altrogge Reviews Dug Down Deep: Over at the Blazing Center blog they've posted a very generous review of the book. Read it.

Very manly, indeed. Wood with splinters! Love it. :)

I think I'd have to agree with CJ this time, Josh. I appreciate the new look!

I have to agree and side with CJ too. BTW, ask CJ if "Mahaney" would make a good, strong, manly name for a new Partin "M" baby. :)
Are your brothers still planning a trip to Japan? If so, when and where??? Be sure to let me know.

Mocha is, indeed, short for Mocha Latte. I think the rule is this: you can drink a standard latte or a mocha latte, as long as you don't say upon tasting the beverage, "my tastebuds are enlightened by the fabulous flavor of this dainty beverage."

Hahaha! I can't remember to be so femine looking.. But I like this new picture! The colours are great! Totally fits in with that barn picture! Old worn-out buildings are great to put on frame.. Not really if you live in it.. Like I do at the moment. But we're doing lots of rebuilding, so it will be great again!
Anyway! Didn't have a mocca yet.. 'cuz there aren't any starbucks around in Norway (neither in Holland) But maybe I will taste one some day!

You know, a Mocha is not necessarily a latte with Chocolate. It could be a cappuccino with chocolate, and that is definitely more manly. If you have any questions concerning the difference between a cappuccino and a latte, let me know.

good. i hope to never see you in that shirt. i thought it was a close up of some throw-blanket that resides on the back of a couch.

Joseph - I take [feigned] issue with your notion that a.) a cappucino is more manly, and b.) that a mocha is a modified cappuciono. a.) You're just wrong and b.) a mocha could only be considered a modified cappucino if you go by the gas station definition of a cappucino, which is not a cappucino at all. At least not a yuppie version of a cappucino.
