A Brief Reunion

harrisboys.jpg

I mentioned a few weeks ago that I was headed to the annual Desiring God Pastors' Conference. I only ended up being there for a day because of sickness in my family, but I was able to hear one session with D.A. Carson and John Piper's biographical message on his father, Bill Piper.

Of course the best part of my short trip was getting time with my dad and brothers. Pictured above are Joel, Alex, Dad, Brett, me, and Isaac.

Prior to the conference, Alex and Brett were interviewed by Talitha Piper on their lives, ministry, and their new book, Do Hard Things.

At a Children Desiring God breakout session, my father gave a message on imitating God's fatherhood, challenging pastors to encourage fathers to lead and instruct in the home. Dad did a great job. I was proud of him and proud to be one of his boys.

I was there with three of my sons. Josh, two things. 1. Your Dad's session was very simple, very clear, very powerful, very helpful. It was a meaningful reminder of how God has led me over the years to love and train my sons. I needed to hear it again and gained some fresh insights to. I appreciated your Dad taking time to talk with me after the session in an unhurried way.

2. Your conversation with my sons and your interest in them was refreshing and greatly encouraging to them. On the way home we talked at length and you were declared "the real deal." This is high praise. You were a special help to my oldest son. I am grateful to you for that.

I wish there was audio of your Dad's session.

God bless you, Josh.

hey! when is ur new book coming out?

I just found your site...I love it. Thanks for putting the effort into it.

Thanks for posting a picture of yourself and 4 brothers without explanations or excuses for there being "so many of you." I'm the eldest of 9 - I would completely understand if you did explain away. But it was so much nicer that you didn't.

My husband was at Na last year and both he and I have been very encouraged by your commitment to humble orthodoxy.

Side note: gotta love the text message style comment! :)
