ESV Study Bible Website

The website for the ESV Study Bible launched today. Our church uses the ESV and we've been anxiously anticipating the release of this study Bible. Last fall I got to sit with Justin Taylor and Dr. Lane Dennis at Crossway and hear about the vision for the study Bible and see comp pages. All I can say is, "Amazing." Look at these features:
25,000-plus notes--focusing especially on understanding the Bible text and providing answers to frequently raised issues. Here's the endorsement I wrote for it:
Over 50 articles--including articles on the Bible's authority, reliability, and interpretation; on biblical archaeology, theology, worship, prayer, and personal application.Over 200 full-color maps--created with the latest digital technology, satellite images, and archaeological research; printed in full color, throughout the Bible.
200-plus charts--offering key insights and in-depth analysis in clear, concise outline form; located throughout the Bible.
80,000 cross-references--to encourage easy location of important words, passages, and biblical themes.
More than 40 new full-color illustrations--including historically accurate reconstructions of the Tabernacle, the Ark of the Covenant, Solomon's temple, Herod's temple, the city of Jerusalem in Jesus' time and throughout the history of Israel, and many more.
"Like the ESV itself, this Study Bible sets a new standard in excellence. The craftsmanship invested in every page--from the insightful articles and informative notes to the crisp design and gorgeous illustrations--makes it an invaluable tool for students of God's Word. As a pastor it's my goal to get one into the hands of every member of my church."It really is my desire to have every member of Covenant Life benefit from this outstanding tool. Please visit the site, learn more about the study Bible (check out the maps and illustrations!) and sign up to get email updates.

What I'm Listening To: I just bought The Weepies new album Hideaway
. Shannon and I are in my office. She's reading and I'm filing and paying bills. I like this album. Great melodies. Good working, studying, chillin' out music.
Bad Guy Caught With a Mac: This is a great story. A girl's Apple laptop gets stolen but she uses a remote access program to control it and takes a picture of the thief as the doofus sits in front of the stolen computer. "Smile! You're getting your mug shot taken!" Using the picture, the police nab the bad guy. Moral of the story? Don't mess with a high-tech girl's Mac.
New Word Alive's Top 10: The recent New Word Alive conference showed a video top-ten list of books for students. My book Sex is Not the Problem made the list. It's pretty funny. I just wish mine could have made it in the wok.

Church?
"I am reading Joshua Harris book Stop Dating the Church...love it. He talks about the people who believe they can be Christians and never go to church. I have heard this argument many times. They don't believe you have to fellowship..." (Read full post here.)
Jargon Meets Advice
"Boy Meets Girl: I read part of this back when I bought it 7-ish years ago. If you get past the jargon-y parts it has some solid advice." (Read full post here.)
A Brief Review
"I think this book [Sex is Not the Problem (Lust Is)] would appeal to both teenagers and parents, although I would give the parents the book first to read. This is not explicit in its language but it does tackle the difficult questions." (Read full post here.)

Frankly, I'm quite sad, despite the usefulness of this resource, to see that someone didn't have the discernment to not use an endorsment from Mark Driscoll. Though this may attract emergent minded people, this could possibly be a stumbling block to those who read the endorsment and do not understand the dangers of the emergent church.

I am most definitely looking forward to this! Yes!

Thanks for the review. This looks like it is going to be a good resource. Driscoll gave this high reviews on his blog. I do not believe that Driscoll is emergent. I know he got caught up in that at the beginning of the movement, but I am pretty sure he makes it clear that he is not emergent. The way he looks, dresses, preaches and does church does not make him emergent. He is reaching people in Seattle.
thanks Josh
Much Love
