Thursdays at the Harris Home
This week I'm starting something new. Every Thursday I'll have Shannon do a post about the family and what she's doing with our kiddos. So please welcome my amazing wife. Here's the first installment of her weekly posts about homemaking and homeschooling our three children...
Tennis
Today we were supposed to go to a dairy farm for a field trip. But Mary Kate was tuckered out, and I couldn't bear to wake her up. Since we weren't going to do our usual school anyway, and the weather was beautiful, I opted for phys-ed. The kids and I made our own tennis net, and both kids loved sitting on the step ladder and learning to keep score with the chalkboard. I am hoping we can get a real driveway tennis net, so we can pull it out whenever we want. The kids are taking tennis lessons on Monday's this spring at our local tennis club. — Shannon

Bad Guy Caught With a Mac: This is a great story. A girl's Apple laptop gets stolen but she uses a remote access program to control it and takes a picture of the thief as the doofus sits in front of the stolen computer. "Smile! You're getting your mug shot taken!" Using the picture, the police nab the bad guy. Moral of the story? Don't mess with a high-tech girl's Mac.
New Word Alive's Top 10: The recent New Word Alive conference showed a video top-ten list of books for students. My book Sex is Not the Problem made the list. It's pretty funny. I just wish mine could have made it in the wok.

Church?
"I am reading Joshua Harris book Stop Dating the Church...love it. He talks about the people who believe they can be Christians and never go to church. I have heard this argument many times. They don't believe you have to fellowship..." (Read full post here.)
Jargon Meets Advice
"Boy Meets Girl: I read part of this back when I bought it 7-ish years ago. If you get past the jargon-y parts it has some solid advice." (Read full post here.)
A Brief Review
"I think this book [Sex is Not the Problem (Lust Is)] would appeal to both teenagers and parents, although I would give the parents the book first to read. This is not explicit in its language but it does tackle the difficult questions." (Read full post here.)

Hey Shannon!
Welcome!!! Great pictures and really creative tennis net it looks like (seriously, it looks like a really cool idea and I'm tempted to try it myself when the courts are crowded in the summer) -- reminds me of the various and varied hockey goals my family used or made when I was a kid and we played at the neighborhood park. I was homeschooled from age 4 on and many of my best memories are the field trips we got to go on and science and cooking (experiments) we did together as a family. We also got to take a lot of classes through the local community center -- art, pottery, music, swimming, volleyball, tennis, etc. I went to a group tennis class when I was Jr. High age and it was definitely one of my favorite activities -- although I had the tendency to (unintentionally) hit the instructor when practicing my serves, so I'm not sure I was liked as much as I liked the class. It was a lot of fun, though. Thanks for writing and sharing the pictures (your kids are really, really cute!) and I look forward to hearing more about your family's adventures. I'm so glad you'll be writing on the blog now, too!
God bless you all,
Nicole
P.S. Any ideas for the color scheme of this site? (Tell Josh I'm kidding -- no, but really?)

Shannon,
I am also a homeschool mom of 3. Ages 7,5, and 2. The pictures are wonderful. I love seeing the ingenuity of another mom who truly engages with her kids. Thanks for posting a bit of sunshine for us today. I appreciate it.
God bless.
