NBA Finals: I'm thinking it would be really cool to have the Celtics and the Lakers facing each other in the finals. And I think that only about three people will watch if its the Pistons and Spurs.
My friends Ben and Nancy shared this quote from Nancy Guthrie's book "Holding on to Hope." In it she recounts losing her baby to a rare genetic disorder: "The day after we buried Hope, my husband said to me, 'You know, I think we expected our faith to make this hurt less, but it doesn't. Our faith gave us an incredible amount of strength and encouragement while we had Hope, and we are comforted by the knowledge that she is in heaven. Our faith keeps us from being swallowed by despair. But I don't think it makes our loss hurt any less.'"
My friend Lucy shared this quote on prayer by E.M. Bounds to encourage me regarding the passing of my mother. Mom truly was a woman of prayer this truth blessed me: "The [woman] who has done the most and the best praying is the most immortal, because prayers do not die. Perhaps the lips that uttered them closed in death, or the heart that felt them may have ceased to beat, but the prayers live before God, and God's heart is set on them. Prayers outlive the lives of those who uttered them-outlive a generation, outlive an age, outlive a world."
My publisher has very kindly given me permission to post another free, downloadable chapter from Dug Down Deep. But I'd love to get your help deciding which chapter to use. Here's the table of contents. Just leave a comment telling me which one you'd choose. Thanks!
Mark Batterson writes, "Numbers are a dangerous thing. They help us measure things, but measuring in the spiritual realm isn't always a healthy or holy thing. In one sense, we count people because people count. I get that. But there is a great danger when it comes to churches. Numbers tend to produce pride or jealousy. And both of those things will eat you alive spiritually." His summary: "Be careful how you count. And if it results in pride or jealousy, stop counting. The Lord will not share his glory!" Read more.

i agree... rondo from celtics been pretty good. it'll be a great match if lakers vs. celtics.
I must disagree... I think the Celtics are overrated, and I as a Blazer fan I hate Kobe... so that would be the only final I wouldn't watch. However, a Spurs Pistons matchup would be the two most experienced playoff teams battling once again. In Duncan vs. Sheed you have a Hall of Famer vs one of the few people who can defend him, in Parker vs Billups you have old vs. new school, and Manu vs. Rip Hamilton/Prince you have spunk vs traditional shooters. It may not be as flashy, but it is a way better match up to watch. It'd only be ugly b/c as basketball fans we have no patience to watch good defense.
JH has made the understatement of the post-season.
Our apathy runneth over at the prospect of a Spurs vs. Pistons match up.
Gimme some old time basketball, Celtics vs. the Mighty Lakers.
Can you imagine all the great love we'd see on ESPN Classic leading up to and during that series?
Oddly enough, I was more certain of the Celtics fulfilling their end of the bargain at the start of the playoffs than the Mighty Lakers.
At this point, however, my thinking is reversed.
Still, the Spurs are no walk in the park. They don't match up well with Kobe, but this is a Shaq-less team, so their previous success may not factor into the mix.
Quit hatin' on the Spurs.
This is a great team, and I'm not just talking about basketball.
David Robinson's legacy is still being seen.
It's time to move beyond the Laker and Celtic days.
Charlotte Bobcats all the way baby!!
Yes, Lakers vs Boston, Spurs vs Pistons, boring.
I agree completely. Please let it be Lakers vs. Celtics...
Lakers would win btw.
There's another Bobcats fan out there! Who-hoo!!! I was beginning to get an Elijah complex.
Being from Charlotte and a Bobcats fan, I'm just glad the Hornets are out. :)
The NBA is slow-motion basketball.
Does that include all those who fall asleep watching?Well since my team the Mavs got booted early I have not paid as much attention to the playoffs, but would love a Celtics-Lakers matchup.
Kobe vs KG not quite Magic vs Bird but it still provides a storyline matchup not seen in quite sometime!!
BTW-Zach is wrong, Celtics in 6
I only watch when the Wizards are good... which means I save a lot of time :)
I too am a Bobcats fan. However, I want to see the Pistons and the Lakers in the finals. Maybe Boston is waking back up after two 7 game series...we'll see.
Totally agree. I didn't realize you were an NBA fan. If it ends up being Celtics v. Lakers, who will you pull for?
I'd like to see Celtics-Lakers also. I'm a Knicks fan and hope their next trip to the Finals comes in my lifetime !
