Today on my way to preach at Jerry Cisar's church in St. Pete, I totaled my friend Wayne Ellerman's car. Emma and Joshua Quinn were with me. Everyone was fine, but we were all shaken up. Five cars were involved in the accident. A dryer had fallen off a truck into the middle of the highway. We hit a car, the airbags deployed, then we careened into and knocked over a cement light post.
I was still able to make it to the church and preach the message from Psalm 56 on fear that I've been sharing here on the blog (armed with a very fresh illustration).
I'm so grateful to God for protecting my kids. What an incredible reminder on Fathers' Day of how precious every moment with my kids is.
I'm also grateful to Wayne and Connie for being so gracious toward us. And to Jerry for helping us get a rental car.
Drive safe and give your kids a hug.

So thankful that everyone is OK!! What an amazing and "shaking up" experience to have on the way to church!!
Giving thanks to the Lord that He is ever the shield about you and your family; He is your glory and the lifter of your heads. (Psalm 3:3)

Josh - so glad is all ok! Thanks so much for your site - you rock. I am a friend of Jim Winn's and we met a long time ago. I wanted to let you know that your ministry is really appreciated. Hope all is well at CovLife!

Two days ago, my mom and I had this long conversation that ended up being about how the hardest, most painful, least enjoyed experiences we've been through have been -- we realize on looking back -- some of the best things that have happened to us because they, more than anything, caused us to need Him to be our all in all and brought us into fellowship with Him and a deeper knowledge of His Character and His Love.
Interestingly, though, our conversation actually started out as a discussion about why such bad things were allowed in our lives (could there have been a better way than that, why couldn't we have learned what we did any easier than this, etc.). With each past hurt or terrifying circumstance we talked over, although it still hurt immensely even to talk it over, God graciously brought us to the conclusion that His Will was always, is always, and will always be the best for our good, the least painful and easiest way of learning in the long run, and what we would have chosen had we wisdom that is not so limited and should we see the eternal outcome (and had we the courage, presently).
I'm praying for you all -- and am so glad you and your kids are alright! May your whole family be held in the Arms of our Heavenly Father and know Him and trust Him and abide in Him with the pure, unquestionable and unrestrained faith like that of a small child. And may He richly bless you for being an example to us of grateful praise unto Him -- not just in words and through easy, joyful times, but in life and when it's hard.
i'm glad that everyone is okay.
Very relieved that all is OK.

I'm so glad that you and your children are okay.
This is good News. It related to the Message. Another portion why is good to trust in the providence of God. I am glad that everyone is fine. Our prayers are with you and family.
Much love and blessings...
Josh,
We are so thankful to the Lord for protecting you. Thank you, Shannon and your children so much for taking time out of your vacation to speak at Gulf Coast and Grace Community Church. Your care for us is very much appreciated.
wow! so glad you and the kids are fine. prais God!
Wow! So glad God kept you all safe!
And praise God for large cars for extra protection!
Thank you to you and Shannon for your hearts as parents. It never fails to encourage me when I read the solid teaching here. Your testimony of trust in the last few posts about fear have been good.
Isn't it mind-blowing and humbling to know that in that brief moment when the car lost control that our Lord saw you? In that instant he saw Shannon and your tiniest one. He saw Emma and Joshua and all the other lives on that road.
One of our little ones prayed this weekend that all those traveling would in one way or another experience the Lord's protection and mercy. I'll let them know there was a specific answer to that prayer.
God Bless.
I'm relieved to hear everyone was safe and okay. God's kindness!
Be Blessed! Good that you drive save!
