No, John Piper Hasn't Joined a Gang

My friend Kirk emailed this picture of one of one the girls from his church with John Piper at New Attitude. Evidently she asked him to do a "W" for the "word of God" since that was the theme of the conference. Kirk pointed out that of course Piper had no idea he was also flashing the "Westside" gang symbol. Represent!

Pilgrim's Progress Musical: Pilgrim is a modern musical adaptation of John Bunyan's classic work, Pilgrim's Progress. It was performed in spring 2009 by the high school students at my church. They did a great job. The script is by theatre professionals (and members of our church) Janice Mays and Cathy Mays. The music is by various artists, including Bob Kauflin, Zach Jones and Mark Altrogge. You can order a DVD of the production here.
Give Me An Answer Highschool Conference: I'm looking forward to joining Al Mohler, Russell Moore, Shane & Shane and hip-hop artist Flame at the SBTS conference for highschool students next spring. Details.
Stephen Altrogge Reviews Dug Down Deep: Over at the Blazing Center blog they've posted a very generous review of the book. Read it.

For the sake of non-American readers like me, can anyone tell me - Who is Westside? What does 'represent' mean? Who is John Piper? (OK I'm kidding about the last one!)

hmm this begs the question if John Piper had a rap album what would his rap name be?

WOW. I can honestly say that is on the list of things I never thought I'd see in my life. Priceless. Although maybe they should use it for BBC's event Hoops, Hip-Hop and the Gospel.

As to the rap name, Johnny Pipes already has a song. Remember "John Piper is BAD?"

I think if he had a rap album his name might be something along the lines of DJ Hedonizzle

Nice! Piper, Piper, Piper! What are we going to do with him? So did Kirk try to get him to do that on purpose?
In Christ,
Olivia

commenting from west side. this is really funny. could i post the picture on my blog?

that's me in the picture.. I seriously didn't mean it as westside lol. I just thought it'd be funny and it could represent The "Word" of God since it was the theme lol

That is really funny. I was right behind her when she did this. Piper thought it stood for Wheaton College. Gang symbols turning into Christian symbols. :)

Kelly, can you PLEASE send me a high resolution copy of this photo! I'd LOVE to enlarge it and put it up in my music studio! PLLLLEEEASE!
Piper's the man! Wessssssyde!
PS. Throwing up "the W (the dub!)" is just saying that you're from the West Coast (typically refering to California!)

Excellent pic! It reminded me to pray for some of the Westside boys in these parts of Fort Worth, Texas, that they would bow the knee to the king.
Blessings!
