Kirk Cameron Will Only Kiss His Wife: Have you ever had the thought, "How do actors keep their marriages together when they're constantly doing loves scenes in movies with people they're not married to?" Well, obviously and sadly, most Hollywood marriages don't last. I thought this story about Kirk Cameron is a great example of a Christian putting godliness and his marriage before his career. Way to go! I met Kirk several years ago at Passion's One Day conference. I was impressed with the powerful way he presented the gospel there. I look forward to seeing Fireproof.

My friend Donald Miller shares a helpful tip for writers: get a kitchen timer. Don explains, "When I have two or three writing assignments I just make a list, then pick one, then set my little timer for an hour or twenty minutes or whatever amount of time that specific assignment will cost me. And then, while the timer is ticking away on my desk, I don't let myself do anything else....When the timer goes off, I decide whether I want to keep working on it, or move on. It's a simple tool, but it works." Read more.
Tim Challies asks whether he's ready to address his Google search history with God. "What would I say to him if he were to ask me about the things I have gone looking for online? Could I tell him with confidence that what I have sought is an indication of a heart that is aligned with his purposes? Or would I have to confess that my searches point to a heart that is drawn to what is evil and perverse?" Read the post.

This makes me happy. I know Cameron's position is rare in Hollywood, but at least he's honoring his commitment and showing other actors that there's another way.
I've always wondered how love scenes could not be harmful to a marriage. Acting or not, it seems like that sort of danger and potential problems wouldn't be worth any amount of money or fame; but I guess I see how it's so typical that actors do not even question it. Then again, we as consumers are going along with it too. Hmm.
Interesting!
I have often contemplated my own "hypocrisy" (if that's what it should be called) in viewing movies with actors and actresses who kiss "complete strangers." Should I boycott them all completely? Do I allow my boys to see that kind of interaction on tv and in movies and then expect them to wait for The One Woman God has for them?
Thanks for that link. I am so excited to go Friday night with friends! Great reason for a double date!
Yes, actually I have wondered that! I think about how (hypothetically) if I were an actress, I would feel uncomfortable doing a romantic scene or if the character had to use profanity.
That was a good article; I admire Kirk Cameron and the example he sets. My local church showed a trailer for Fireproof, and I am interested in seeing it, too!
I too was so thrilled to read this. And so excited to see the movie!
WELL I HAVENT SEEN THE MOVIE YET BUT I CANT HARDLY WAIT. JUST BY THE PREVIEWS IT LOOKS GOOD, I THINK KIRK IS SETTING A GOOD EXAMLPE FOR OTHER ACTORS.
Many have been helped by my insightful review of Fireproof:

This is sweet, but could this be considered a realistic model for a struggling actor navigating the treacherous ground of Hollywood? The idea is amusing at best. You are talking about an established actor with the fredom to pick and choose his projects working with producers and casting directors who were willing to indulge him. Even with all that he didn't manage to skirt the issue of an on screen kiss.
Less than 10% of all SAG actors earn more than $5000 a year. You also have producers who are contractually obligated to deliver a love scene for their financial backers.
The best an actor can do is be up front with their agent (if they are lucky enough to have one) about where their line is. I personally have grown comfortable with being willing to kiss on screen, even though I don't really like it.
