A Definition of Repentance
"Repentance means turning from as much as you know of your sin to give as much as you know of yourself to as much as you know of your God, and as our knowledge grows at these three points so our practice of repentance has to be enlarged."—J.I. Packer, Keep in Step with the Spirit, page 87

wow. that's a great quote. its encouraging because often i feel i don't know my sinfulness fully enough to properly repent. or that i don't fully understand how the character of God applies. thanks for the encouragement to come to God in our weakness with who we are and trust Him in grace to work.

Yeah, that is good. I finished reading the same book a little while ago (had it on my shelf for years!) and was really struck by the little appendix on Rom 7 in which he puts forward the 'standard' position that a continuing battle with sin is part of the normal experience of a growing Christian. Repentance is a part of that. Hope you find it as helpful as I did!
