Everything Has an End
I mentioned in another post that our family has been reading a children's book called The Railway Children by E. Nesbit. Tonight, as we finished the final chapters, we read the following quote which I enjoyed. It gives you a taste of Nesbit's style and is filled with a practical kind of wisdom. The context is that Peter and his younger sister Phyllis are making their way out of a dark train tunnel...
"There's no end to this tunnel," said Phyllis—and indeed it did seem very, very long.
"Stick to it," said Peter; "everything has an end, and you get to it if you only keep on."Which is quite true, if you come to think of it, and a useful thing to remember in seasons of trouble—such as measles, arithmetic, impositions, and those times when you are in disgrace, and feel as though no one would ever love you again, and you could never—never again—love anybody.
"Hurray," said Peter, suddenly, "there's the end of the tunnel—looks just like a pin-hole in a bit of black paper, doesn't it?"

Pilgrim's Progress Musical: Pilgrim is a modern musical adaptation of John Bunyan's classic work, Pilgrim's Progress. It was performed in spring 2009 by the high school students at my church. They did a great job. The script is by theatre professionals (and members of our church) Janice Mays and Cathy Mays. The music is by various artists, including Bob Kauflin, Zach Jones and Mark Altrogge. You can order a DVD of the production here.
Give Me An Answer Highschool Conference: I'm looking forward to joining Al Mohler, Russell Moore, Shane & Shane and hip-hop artist Flame at the SBTS conference for highschool students next spring. Details.
Stephen Altrogge Reviews Dug Down Deep: Over at the Blazing Center blog they've posted a very generous review of the book. Read it.

Thanks. Reminded me of my own childhood and what a great quote. I am sure your children will have been blessed through this classic English tale.

Thanks Josh
I am going to counseling right now to work out some tramatic things I went through in childhood. I can not tell you how many times I have wanted to quit. What an encouragment to "keep on" because one day there will be an end.

LOVE that book! The movie is pretty good too. The way the children speak is so British and sweet.
