First Chapter of Dug Down Deep
Here's the first chapter of my forthcoming book Dug Down Deep. The book will be released January 19, 2010, but can be pre-ordered now. I'd love to hear what you think. And I'd be grateful for your help in sharing this with others. You can post this chapter on your Facebook page or blog through Scribd.

Matt Chandler Video: My family listened to one of Matt's sermons as we drove to Ohio for Thanksgiving. A few days later we were shocked to hear of his seizure and need for immediate surgery. Matt and his family and church have been in our prayers since. This is a video Matt recorded for his church right before the surgery. In it he's exalting Jesus and pastoring his people. I thank God for this man and pray for his quick recovery. Watch.
Calling Christian Actors: Vinegar Hill is casting for the NEXT 2010 conference promo video right now. Check out the casting call.
Pilgrim's Progress Musical: Pilgrim is a modern musical adaptation of John Bunyan's classic work, Pilgrim's Progress. It was performed in spring 2009 by the high school students at my church. They did a great job. The script is by theatre professionals (and members of our church) Janice Mays and Cathy Mays. The music is by various artists, including Bob Kauflin, Zach Jones and Mark Altrogge. You can order a DVD of the production here.

Josh,
I simply cannot wait to buy a copy of this book. I am starting my list of people I'm going to buy copies for now. Well done! (And that's just from the first chapter!)

Mr. Harris,
My whole small group loved "I Kissed Dating Goodbye," and many of us follow the Covenant Life sermons on iTunes. I am really excited to read your new book. Thank you so much for sharing. : )

Josh,
This first chapter was very personal, and had human warmth. What I liked most about it is that you don't seem to be trying to "write" - you're just speaking from your heart. My ministry is with college students, and I think this may be a great book for them. I look forward to reading it next year.

Wow! I am excited to read this as well.
The line about how it is easy to view your church as a punching bag was very convicting. Makes me think of when I was in high school and I had a lot of anger towards my mega church and my Christian school.

Thanks for your honesty and vulnerability here in the first chapter in regards to your growing up years. As always Josh, that is a breath of fresh air.
Your struggles and experiences, tied together with your insight into theology/doctrine, make this an very enjoyable read.
Keep preaching the Word.
Soli Deo Gloria!

My response to the upcoming release of this book is a very mature "YAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!"
"Theology, Doctrine, and Orthodoxy matter because God is real, he has acted in our world, and his actions have meaning, now and for eternity."
THANK YOU. I can't wait.

Hi Pastor Josh,
You are a very anointed writer. The words flowed very well in this chapter, and God really spoke into my own life as I read it. Great job! I praise God for guiding you to write this book.

After reading the first chapter, I can't wait for this book to be released. I am definately adding it to my book list...at the top of it. The very things spoken of in the first chapter are the things God has been dealing with me about on a personal level. Thank you for writing in obedience the words the Lord would have you write.

Wow! Just finished this chapter and can't wait to read the rest what a message we (no "I") need to hear...no more me-ology!
Thanks,
Rob
P.S. Will this book have a study guide avialbale at some point?

The first chapter is excellent. Looking forward to the rest of the book! I am neither Reformed nor charismatic, so I will be interested to see how detailed you get about your theology in the book. :) However, I've already posted a short review on my personal blog and am working on a more in-depth one for ylcf.org. Because I know even if I don't agree with every bit, it will make me explore more deeply what I believe. And that's what it's all about!
As a side note, reading the book's dedication was fun, because I had forgotten that your youngest is named Mary Kate--that's what we just named our second daughter!
