Lee Strobel's Books for Kids

CaseforaCreator.jpgRecently my 9 and 7-year-old have been asking questions about the basis for faith in God. "How can we know God exists?" and "What about other religions?" This has been encouraging in that they're engaging with very important spiritual questions. But it's also very sobering and humbling as I seek to engage their questions appropriately and communicate the hope of the gospel of Jesus Christ to them. I've been driven to my knees in prayer (and if you think of it, I would ask that you join me in praying for my children that they would, in God's good time, come to a saving knowledge of Christ themselves).

All this to say, I've started reading them a series of books for children based on Lee Strobel's best-selling "A Case For..." series. I'm sure many of you are familiar with Strobel's work. He's an atheist-turned-Christian and the former award-winning legal editor of The Chicago Tribune who has become a leading Christian apologist. (You can read his bio here.)

CaseforChrist.jpgRight now we're reading A Case for a Creator for Kids and really enjoying it. Co-Author Rob Suggs has done a great job translating the content of Strobel's books into language that children can understand. I think these books could be used by parents to evangelize their own children as well as to bolster the faith of children who have already trusted in Christ.

If you're a parent or teacher who has used these books, I'd love to hear from you. Or if you're aware of other good resources, please feel free to leave a comment.

And here are links to the books if you want to check them out...

Thank you for the recommendation. The church is sorely lacking in these types of materials. Answers in Genesis offers some excellent stuff, but otherwise... it's fairly slim pickings. I'm looking forward to checking these out and hopefully incorporating them (or something similar) in my children's ministry classes.

The Lord is giving a Children's ministry and I do appreciate your recommendation.

They look like wonderful, wonderful books. And, yes, we will join in prayer for your little ones and for our own. For all little children, actually. Such tenderness in youth. To be captured by a love for the Lord at a young age is a prize, indeed.

I love book recommendations for parents! Thanks.

Recently we read Starr Meade's Keeping Holiday. It was outstanding. It is like Pilgrim's Progress/Dangerous Journey in many ways, but has some fresh ways of getting across notions like the initiative of God in drawing us, what it feels like to despair of our own righteousness, the temptations of the world and of religion, the need for perseverance. Our boys (11 and 8) didn't want to stop reading it.

These do sound good.

Do your 9 and 7 year old really say, "exist?"

By the way, I just finished reading a review copy of Dug Down Deep. Good work.
