My friends Ben and Nancy shared this quote from Nancy Guthrie's book "Holding on to Hope." In it she recounts losing her baby to a rare genetic disorder: "The day after we buried Hope, my husband said to me, 'You know, I think we expected our faith to make this hurt less, but it doesn't. Our faith gave us an incredible amount of strength and encouragement while we had Hope, and we are comforted by the knowledge that she is in heaven. Our faith keeps us from being swallowed by despair. But I don't think it makes our loss hurt any less.'"
My friend Lucy shared this quote on prayer by E.M. Bounds to encourage me regarding the passing of my mother. Mom truly was a woman of prayer this truth blessed me: "The [woman] who has done the most and the best praying is the most immortal, because prayers do not die. Perhaps the lips that uttered them closed in death, or the heart that felt them may have ceased to beat, but the prayers live before God, and God's heart is set on them. Prayers outlive the lives of those who uttered them-outlive a generation, outlive an age, outlive a world."
My publisher has very kindly given me permission to post another free, downloadable chapter from Dug Down Deep. But I'd love to get your help deciding which chapter to use. Here's the table of contents. Just leave a comment telling me which one you'd choose. Thanks!
Mark Batterson writes, "Numbers are a dangerous thing. They help us measure things, but measuring in the spiritual realm isn't always a healthy or holy thing. In one sense, we count people because people count. I get that. But there is a great danger when it comes to churches. Numbers tend to produce pride or jealousy. And both of those things will eat you alive spiritually." His summary: "Be careful how you count. And if it results in pride or jealousy, stop counting. The Lord will not share his glory!" Read more.

Congratulations, Josh. And thank you for your faithfulness and service to the Church.
Josh thank you for writing this book. I felt like this is exactly what I, and the church, needed to here in an accessible way.
This book will be huge for God's glory.
Cool graphic!
I know the book comes out tomorrow, but I got a copy for my son to read last Thursday already. By the way, my son Josh is loving it. He's 22 and it's addressing exactly what he needs. Thanks Josh.
Great book! Thanks for writing it. I was deeply blessed. I appreciate your transparency and writing style. Thanks for boldly bringing your readers to the place where theology and life meet.
Congrats! Looking forward to it! :)
Like many others, I'm looking forward to this one. I actually read Challies's review today before I ventured over here. From what he said (and you here before), I'm looking forward to hearing your insights into Theology from your life. How refreshing (hopefully, right?).
Congratulations.

Yay! So exciting!
Josh,
Thanks for putting the first chapter online! I'm excited to read the rest of the book. Adding it to my Amazon order :)
I've been reading your work since my subscription to New Attitude back in the day.
I now live in rural northern Japan and homeschool my five children.
Thanks for the encouragement you have been over the years.

Josh,
Why do you have Donald Miller endorsing your book? Excited by the new book but a bit puzzled by having someone with really questionable theology endorsing your book. I am a little confused with that?
Randy
Loved the book, Josh. Fantastic work. I've no doubt it will be a blessing to a great many people.
Josh,
There is alot of controversy surounding Donald Miller's support of your book. Could you shed some light on that for everyone. Who is he and where is he from. Maybe a link where we can read about him. Some think he is pretty off and were surprized to see his name associated with your book.
Gosip and assumptions cause division not unity so I just thought it might be good to go to the source and ask you.
By the way I am looking forward to getting a copy of the book.
Thanks
Josh,
So cool to walk into Borders last night and see your book out!!!
Grateful for you,
Helen
Your book is a blessing! I wish booksellers have lower prices so I could get more copies and also use the book in my church to teach young people and seekers about theology!
Next time I'm up at Covenant Life, I might ask for a book signing ;)
Thanks for all you do for the glory of God!
Josh,
I was in Books A Million Sat night waiting to pick up my daughter at a party and I came across your book. I had never read any of your books but was familiar with you and Covenant Church.
Humble Orthodoxy is what the new generation of Christians need to engage in. Right doctrine leads to right thinking about God. Our young people need to learn to think deeply and study in order to share the gospel of grace most effectively.
Before too long, guys like Piper, Stott, Packer, Bridges, Grudem etc. will be gone. I want to encourage you and Driscoll to continue to take up the torch that will be left when these guys are gone.
I am 42. I thoroughly enjoyed the book.
By the way, Grudem's "phone book" is a great evangelism tool. Because of its size, you get alot of questions lugging it around the coffee shops. Keep up the good work.
Grace and Peace,
H.F. Mason
