Praying for Haiti

If you have friends and loved ones touched by the tragedy in Haiti, please leave a comment with their name so that the rest of us can lift them up in prayer. We will ask that our great God will protect, preserve and comfort them during these difficult days.

Hey Josh, I just thought this may be appropriate to share since you have a post regarding Haiti. My brother wrote a post yesterday titled "How should Christians feel about Haiti?" and I just wanted to pass it on to you and maybe even have you pass it on to your followers. I think it's really good and speaks of God's supreme sovereignty even through the tragedies such as Haiti and gives Christians a firm Biblical perspective in responding to this incident. Take a look.

Grace,

I received the following from Phyllis Schmid, who is a missionary in Balosse : “Yes, we were hit hard by this earthquake. The original Bible School building has partially collapsed. Classes were in session. People got out covered in dirt and debris. But there are at least two students David and Bruce and others are still trying to get out. They have not heard from them, so they are feared dead. We don’t have the heavy equipment needed. It is pitch black and we have neighbors and students all over the campus. "

I was able to visit this facility back in 03. This is just the tip of the iceberg though.

Dr Frank Garlock of Greenville, SC went to Haiti to minister in a local church. He has not been heard from since the earthquake. He was in a small village about 30 miles from the epicenter.

We're closely tied to a seminary in Port-au-Prince (http://www.stephaiti.org/default_main.asp)... From what we're hearing, part of the building collapsed and several students/teachers are feared dead.

Otherwise, we're rejoicing that many of our contacts in Haiti have been spared. We will be praying with all of you!

"Assim como não sabemos como se formam os ossos da criança no ventre de sua mãe, também não sabemos quais as obras Deus irá fazer" Que a misericórdia de Deus esteja sobre o povo do Haiti e que o consolo do Espírito Santo alcance toda alma que está sofrendo com essa tragédia

Please pray for Pastor Beril, a haitian pastor. He was with an American work group north of the disaster. But had left the group to go home to his family which required him to go through Port au Prince and was around the time of the earthquake. He has not been in contact.

He is an amazing man of God and loves his people, his ministry efforts are remarkable.

Thank you,

Terri Goodenough

Please pray for Daniel and Marlene Alix, they are in Florida trying to get down to the children they care for in several homes in Jacmel.

Also pray for Valencia Nutter and Cynthia Baptiste, two ladies in our church who are trying to establish contact with their families in Port-Au-Prince.

Hi Josh. Thanks for offering to pray for loved ones in Haiti. My wife and I sponsor a child in Haiti named Mila. We haven't heard from her since the earthquake. Please pray for her.

Hi Josh,

My family has supported The Baptist Haiti Mission for 20+ years and are close to a missionary named Elsa. Her mission and the hospital the mission has are standing and are overflowing. As far as I know Elsa is safe as her mission is in the mountains of Fermathe.

If people would like to donate and be assured that the money is going to those is need you can donate at bhm.org

Please pray for this mission and that their work will not only help save physical lives, but spiritual lives.

Sarah

Please pray for Wisly, our Compassion child. He is 11 years old. He is in the coastal town of Petit Goave, Haiti which is located 38 km south of Port-au-Prince. We received an email from Compassion explaining that they are searching for him and his group. Thank you for your prayers!

Josh,
I don't know if you know Karen Kingsbury (Christian fiction author) or not, but her and her husband have three adopted sons from Haiti. One of the sons (Josh) has not heard anything from his birth mother. Josh's birth mom is the only birth mom of the three boys they have been able to keep in contact through the years. I know this is heartbreaking for everyone in the Kingsbury family. They have such a love and passion for the Lord, please pray for them.

Thanks,
Kensy
PS. This is from Karen's newsletter: "On a personal note, we have not heard from Josh’s birth mother – the only birth parent still alive and with whom we are still in contact. Josh is processing this, praying for her, and I’d ask you to do the same. The other boys are sort of stunned by the pictures they see. They understand the great need, and in their own way they want to help. They are pulling together birthday money and grade money to send for the relief effort. EJ’s middle school is rallying to send a donation, and our boys’ friends, friends of our families have formed a groundswell of willingness to help. Some way. However they might."

Pastor Beril has been in contact and is safe presently. Please continue to pray for him, his family and ministry. Thank you!! Terri

My brother and sister were on a mission trip at an orphange right outside port au prince. My 20 year old brother made it back to KS this afternoon, but my sister is still at the US Embassy in PAP trying to get on a plane. Long story but God has provided and worked miracles. Thanks for your prayers.

Dear Josh,

Please pray for my dad who is on the Los Angeles County Fire Department Urban Search and Rescue Team. He was deployed Wednesday night, and he may be gone for an indefinite amount of time (up to several weeks). Please pray that he might be successful in his searching and not grow weary/discouraged in his work with all the trauma that he will have to go through, as well as that he is a shining light and witness to those whose lives he touches. Thank you so very much for your prayers!

My parents were missionaries in Haiti for several years, so we know many of the nationals and missionaries affected by this quake.

Specifically, I ask for prayer for a missionary couple, Patrick + Barb Lataillade, who work with Living Word Ministries in the Port-au-Prince area. Patrick was trapped in his home, but was rescued on Wednesday afternoon. Barb was in a hospital. Both were airlifted out Thursday and are now hospitalized in Florida. Barb had to have her leg amputated below the knee, and Patrick is in intensive care with 1 lung collapsed and kidney failure.

Hey Josh,

I have a co-worker who's complete family is from Haiti. At first we/he thought that his family survived. Early this week we learned that his Aunt and 5 cousin were killed when their house collapsed on them. In addition his parents are in critical condition but are alive. His family has lost everything. My work is trying to find a way to get him to Haiti and as a team we are trying to raise money to help his parents with medical cost and to eventually rebuild their home. Please include him in our prayer efforts. His name is Sidney.

I have a friend who is involved with Mountain Faith Mission: Haiti. Prayers would be greatly appreciated.
