My friend Ken shared this quote by R.C. Sproul: "God, in his providence, has the power and the will to work all things together for good for his people. This does not mean that everything that happens to us is, in itself, good. Really bad things do happen to us. But they are only proximately bad; they are never ultimately bad. That is, they are bad only in the short (proximate) term, never in the long term. Because of the triumph of God's goodness in all things, he is able to bring good for us out of the bad. He turns our tragedies into supreme blessings."
"As we advance through the centuries, light and life begin to decrease in the Church. Why? Because the torch of the Scripture begins to grow dim and because the deceitful light of human authorities begins to replace it." - Merle d'Aubigne (1794-1872), Reformation historian
"I believe in eternal security. God keeps me secure by making me desperate to be kept--through prayer and the fight of faith." - @John Piper
Paul preaching about Jesus in Antioch in Pisidia: "Let it be known to you therefore, brothers, that through this man forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you, and by him everyone who believes is freed from everything from which you could not be freed by the law of Moses" (Acts 13:38-39).
"And let us not take it into our heads either to seek out God anywhere else than in his Sacred Word, or to think anything about him that is not prompted by his Word, or to speak anything that is not taken from that Word." - John Calvin, Institutes, Book 1

That is a good summation of that concept. Thank you for posting it, especially good to remember at this time of sadness.
Love,
Joanie
Thank you for sharing this. I struggle with fears of 'bad' things, but ultimately know that any bad thing that happens on this earth is only temporary. Praying for you in your very real, but temporary grief, that the Lord will be your strength and song through it all. Saddened for and with you....Love in Him, John and Linda Owen
