Both must go together indeed!
Sorry for the confusion, but in the context of this quote self-will is being described negatively--the opposite of prayer. So self-will isn't a good thing at all. We need to submit ourselves to God's will.
Actually I am not good on this but I am confuse with one commenter in here on Joshua Harris statement. I agree with this article but he has a point too. Do I make sense here?
